Retro Mystery Club Vol. 2: The Beppu Case Coming West for PC and Switch

Publisher Shinyuden announced the western release of Retro Mystery Club Vol. 2: The Beppu Case. The retro-styled Japanese adventure game will be available in English and Spanish on PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch in Early Spring, 2024. A more specific date should be announced in the upcoming days.

Retro Mystery Club is an adventure game developed by Happymeal and inspired by classics of the genre like Famicom Detective Club. The title uses an 8-bit style for its art, which is handled by Kiyokazu Arai, whose previous works include the NES edition of Hokkaido Rensa Satsujin.

In the new game, the protagonist and his junior detective, Ken, go to Beppu in the Oita Prefecture. In this picturesque place, the two find themselves helping the production of Technomix. Combining Beppu’s bamboo crafts with high-tech digital art, this artistic event promised an unprecedented alliance between group Artenova and the locals.

However, this leads to harassment and eventually death threats. The protagonists are tasked with the security of the event and decide to dedicate themselves to it, but a mysterious death will soon cause everything to spiral into a dark turn. It’s now up to them to investigate what happened and to find out the truth.
