Retro JRPG-Inspired Card Adventure ‘SOULVARS’ Releasing for Consoles & PC June 2023

Publisher Shueisha Games and solo developer ginolabo have announced that their deckbuilding turn-based RPG SOULVARS will launch for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on June 27, 2023. The title is currently available on mobile devices.

Throughout this game, humans born with alternate souls, Soulbearers, are tasked with defeating Dominators, beings that emphasize the consequences of rampant technology. The protagonist is a freelance Soulbearer, Yakumo, who handles assignments from the private military contractor “DDO” (Dominator Disposal Organization).

Players can anticipate an experience highly inspired by retro JRPGs with tactical planning. Gear is collected to expand your number of on-hand cards called Soulbits, which are then mixed and matched to produce various effects. Over 100 different Arts and Abilities are useable, so there’s plenty of room for experimentation. Additionally, combat is party-based, highlighting the puzzle approach to battles, and there are over 200 finishing moves to leave an impact.
