Ratchet and Clank are returning for PS5 in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The latest in the saga shows the pair battling it out as the boundaries between dimensions grow weaker, but the new PlayStation’s hardware is making that chaos look beautiful
An exciting new trailer showing the duo falling through different dimensions fighting dragons, pirates, robots, and gravity.
The trailer closed with Clank alone in an alternate dimension and Ratchet no where to be seen. Clank is met by a new, and more feminine, partner. You can check out the reveal trailer below.
Developers also promised that the game’s arsenal would even more distinguished with PlayStation 5’s enhanced haptics.
We also got a few minutes of gameplay showing the dynamic duo’s heroics.
The trailer concluded in a large fight in a courtyard with civilians scrambling for cover and pieces of debris flying across the screen. The developers clearly utilized the new PlayStation’s hardware to put just as many particles as they could on the screen and not drop frames.
The Ratchet & Clank catalog made up a lot of my childhood after I splurged and bought a PlayStation 2 with my Communion money in 2002. I wasn’t interested in 2016 when Ratchet & Clank the movie was released, but this entry, following Sony’s acquisition of Insomniac in 2019, may be enough to get me back to my roots.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will release on the PS5, though no release date has been specified.
