Game Source Entertainment, TVT, and Ratata Arts have announced that the rhythm roguelite action game from the creators of Patapon, Ratatan, will no longer be released for Switch or PlayStation 4.
The team “decided that the projected number of units we could sell for legacy hardware would not justify the licensing fees necessary to complete those SKUs.”
Backers can choose to replace those copies with Steam, Switch 2, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S versions. For those who don’t have options for those pieces of hardware, a support ticket should be opened to request different options.
In looking at those options it became clear that we wouldn’t be able to make the highest possible quality game while also developing for a large number of different platforms. So we have decided to focus on a smaller number of platforms to achieve maximum quality.
We know there are a lot of backers who looked forward to this on their platform of choice and we are deeply sorry for being able to do everything. That being said, we will continue to look into what options we have to see if those platforms are options in the future. For now, however, please allow us to focus on this more manageable set of platforms.
Ratatan is the spiritual successor to the beloved Patapon series. Players step into the role of a conductor, controlling a charming army of Ratatan characters through musical phrases represented by controller commands.
To succeed, button presses need to be in sync with the rhythm. The game elevates its musical theme by having Ratatan characters wield musical instruments and unleash powerful skills during battles. It also modernizes the movement system without compromising the beloved four-beat attack-defense gameplay adored by fans. Developer TVT is using its “Theory Engine” to ensure seamless online multiplayer.
Up to 4 players can play online multiplayer, and language support is available for Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Over 100,000 units have been sold.
Ratatan will be released for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on July 16, 2026.
