The Pokémon Company International revealed new details about their upcoming RPG adventure Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, coming to Nintendo Switch on November 15.
The details surround the new feature of Gigantamaxing, which sounds like a new hot drug on the market, but I assure you it’s not unless it is…I’m really not sure now. Regardless, the company has previously revealed Dynamaxing, which can only occur in specific areas of the Galar region. However, there is now Gigantamaxing, which makes Pokémon bigger and also changes their appearance. Similar to Dynamaxing, Gigantamax Pokémon are able to use unique moves known as G-Max Moves, which are specifically for Gigantamax Pokémon and cannot be used in other forms. With that said, only rare species of Pokémon can Gigantamax and most Pokémon only have access to Dynamax.
The publisher has released a new trailer to detail the feature and give players a peek at two new Pokémon who will be able to Gigantamax:
Gigantamax Drednaw – In the Gigantamax form, Drednaw is able to stand on its hind legs and become bipedal. From this position, it can crash on enemy Pokémon with a massive body blow. Its G-Max Stonesurge causes Pokémon who enter the battle to take damage.
- Type: Water/Rock
- Height: 78′9″+
- Weight: Unknown
- Ability: Strong Jaw / Shell Armor
Gigantamax Corviknight – Corviknight uses its massive wings to catch updrafts using the Gigantamax energy, which causes it to hover. Flying-type moves used on Corviknight while in this form will change to G-Max Wind Rage, which removes any effect of moves like Reflect, Light Screen, Spikes, and Electric Terrain on the opponent’s side.
- Type: Flying/Steel
- Height: 45′11″+
- Weight: Unknown
- Ability: Pressure/Unnerve
Additionally, the developer revealed other Pokémon, Alcremie, Gigantamax Alcremie, Yamper, and Rolycoly in the trailer, and gives players a closer look at some of the game’s upcoming gym leaders and challengers.
