Pokémon Developer Reveals New IP ‘Town’ for Nintendo Switch in Debut Trailer

During September’s Nintendo Direct, the publisher has revealed Game Freak’s newest title ‘Town‘ (working title), coming to Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Known as the developer of the Pokémon series, Game Freak has taken their RPG skills to create a new IP for the console hybrid. Little has been revealed about the game, but so far we know players will need to equip weapons to a currently unknown protagonist as they fight off invading monsters and protect the walls of a single village.

Additionally, the publisher released a gameplay trailer for Town showing a nicely animated and colorful world. The game also has a turn-based battle system showing one character against a monster as well as a different character charging what looks to be a special attack.

We’re definitely excited to learn more in the future. In the meantime, you can watch the debut gameplay trailer below:

Author’s take: Town is looking a lot like Dark Cloud and that is a good thing. I want to know more about the game’s story and how they will weave that into fighting invading monsters. I also enjoy the cliffhanger ending where the protagonist holds a glowing object.

I’d like to also explore Nintendo’s dedication to delivering first-party RPG’s to their console, something that other publishers have stepped away from in recent years to focus on narrative adventures.
