PlayStation Studios Acquires Valkyrie Entertainment

Today, the head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, announced that they have acquired Valkyrie Entertainment. This studio is an independent video game developer based in Seattle and has existed since 2002. They have helped work on numerous notable titles such as Halo Infinite, Shadow of War, and the upcoming God of War: Ragnarök. The studio’s official website houses more notable information. Valkyrie Entertainment will assuredly be an instrumental team for PlayStation Studios’ future endeavors.

God of War: Ragnarök is the direct sequel to 2018’s Game of the Year God of War, the successful reboot of Sony’s action-heavy franchise. God of War: Ragnarök continues the story of Kratos and Atreus in the lands of Norse mythology. This time, the father and son try to stop Ragnarök as they face the God of Thunder himself, Thor. The trailer also shows a slightly older Atreus, who is now more of a teenager than a young boy. We also see the duo seeking out the Norse god of war, Tyr, for guidance.

Though they planned to have a 2021 release date, Santa Monica Studio tweeted a statement earlier this year stating the sequel would be delayed due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, we did not get a release date for God of War: Ragnarök.
