PlayStation 5 Receiving VRR Support, Remote Play Enhancements & More
Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5 will be receiving several new enhancements today in a significant update. Firstly, users will be able to create or join open and closed parties on both PS4, PS5, and the official PS app. Additionally, the PS5 will be receiving UI enhancements for Trophy Cards and the Game Base. The PS Remote Play app has also gained a new dark mode functionality for increased accessibility alongside new screen reader languages. A voice command function is arriving to U.S. and U.K. users to perform basic tasks like opening apps.
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is planned to be added to the PS5 in the coming months for compatible TVs where it “dynamically syncs the refresh rate of the display to the PS5 console’s graphical output.” Generally speaking, gameplay performance should be far smoother, accompanied by fewer visual bugs and instant rendering. Already released games can benefit from this utility, though VRR can still be enabled for games that don’t inherently support it. Thankfully, users can disable VRR support at any time if any particular oddities begin to occur within their games.
