Pikmin 1 and 2 Coming to Switch Later Today; HD Versions of First Two Pikmin Games
During the Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that HD versions of the first two Pikmin games, originally released on the Nintendo GameCube, will launch on Nintendo eShop later today.
The games will be available individually or in a digital bundle that containing both games at a discounted price.
Furthermore, a physical version that includes both games will also be available on September 22. With the inclusion of these two games on Nintendo Switch, we officially have all Pikmin games on Nintendo Switch: Pikmin 1, Pikmin 2, Pikmin 3, and, as of July 21, Pikmin 4!
In Pikmin 1, players play as Captain Olimar, a man of high vocabulary and an employee of Hocotate Freight. After all the hard work from his profession, Olimar decides to take an interstellar vacation in his personal ship, the S.S. Dolphin. However, a meteorite suddenly smashes into Olimar’s ship, and he is knocked unconscious toward a seemingly undiscovered planet. Olimar awakens to find his beloved ship in ruins! He must find all the necessary ship parts with the help of his newfound friend, the Pikmin, in order to get back to his home planet before his 30-Day life support runs out.
In Pikmin 2, which takes place after the first game, Olimar returns to Hocotate Freight, only to find out that the company is in severe debt. Olimar learns that Hocotate Freight is in massive debt due to the loss of a shipment of Golden Pikpik Carrots, a situation brought about by Louie. Due to this, Olimar’s ship, the S.S. Dolphin, is consequently removed and sold in order to repay some of the debt. Afterward, Olimar brings out a bottle cap, which is said to be valued at an outstanding value. Olimar is then ordered to go back to the planet he first crash-landed on in an attempt to find more treasure and hopefully pay off the company’s debt.
