Developer S-Game has announced that pre-orders for its upcoming action game Phantom Blade Zero will open on August 11, 2026, at 7 PM PT/ 10 PM ET.
Pre-orders will be live on PSN, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Additionally, the developer has confirmed that development is now complete, and a new 11-minute trailer will open at the same time as the pre-orders, featuring new story content, characters, combat, and “something unexpected.”
Phantom Blade Zero will feature a fictional world inspired by Chinese Wuxia culture. However, there is not solely Chinese inspiration here, since director Liang emphasized that various cultures have inspired him, thanks to his education in the United States and his love for Japanese anime. This open-mindedness has resulted in a self-coined, unique style called “KungfuPunk,” designed to appeal to international audiences.
Several inspirations were previously revealed, notably “Chinese Wuxia novels, 70s~90s Hong Kong films, Japanese manga such as Vagabond, Berserk, and Claymore,” and in the realm of games, “Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Nioh.”
Throughout this action RPG experience, character progression is seamlessly integrated with the storyline, and boss battles are a highlight, with secret ones also hidden within dungeons. Liang stated that they “adopt the most traditional game design approach, avoiding automated mass production.” As a result, players can look forward to “handcrafted” and “thoughtfully” designed combat segments that aim to be simultaneously challenging and rewarding.
Phantom Blade Zero will be released on October 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
