Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis Large Scale ‘Ver.2’ Update Coming Early June 2023

During their NGS Headline, developer SEGA revealed details about the updates and events for Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis coming for the month of May. The developer also revealed that the Ultra Evolution Update, now aptly named Ver.2, will finally be released on June 7, 2023. A multitude of improvements and features were shown, such as cel-shading, the Creative Space and the many things players can do with it.

In the Creative Space, your only limit is your imagination. With the Connect system, players can make all sorts of interactions, from wacky mazes to race courses. The trailer even shows a clever recreation of what looks to me like Dungeon Duos from Mario Party 4. Furthermore, players can take advantage of Portable Holograms which you can place around fields and the Cities.

Furthermore, cel-shading graphics options will be added to the game, allowing players to customize how characters appear in event scenes, as well as their own avatars. Shadow density and outline emphasis can all be customized from the Salon, and cel-shading can be enabled from the in-game Settings menu.

Lastly, Several new Scratch Tickets will also be releasing throughout the month of May, such as the Refined Form May ’23, SG Scratch Ticket, which includes several base PSO2 items that have been updated with NGS specs, the Designer Dreams May ’23 AC Scratch Ticket featuring the first batch of items from the PSO2 10th Anniversary Item Design Contest and finally, the Soul of the Wild AC Scratch Ticket, sporting outfits with a feral flair and also some street-style swimsuits.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a new MMORPG part of the PSO2 universe but is a brand new adventure offering upgraded visuals and a new narrative, amongst other quality-of-life updates. It is considered a “huge-scale update” to Phantasy Star Online 2. Players will find new game systems created using a new graphics engine. The update was made to celebrate the series’s 2oth anniversary and the tenth anniversary of Phantasy Star Online 2. 

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is available now on Xbox One, PC and PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play game. You can watch the May update video detailing all of the update contents below:
