Sega announced that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis in a new update for the MMORPG in development for Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC for a 2021 release.
The gameplay trailer showed the game running on powerful hardware and in 4k resolution, where it retains many of its fast MMORPG systems and features. The trailer also highlights some of the enemies that players will be able to face off against, which are rather large and seem to be wildly improved to the enemies of Phantasy Star Online 2. Furthermore, the environments have been enhanced to be larger and include different themes.
Sega has also confirmed that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will contain Phantasy Star Online 2’s updated game system and graphics engine. The developer is planning to release the update globally including Japan and North America.
During Phantasy Star Online 2, players awaken from a long sleep, and they find out that an enemy known as The Phantom has appeared, who are essentially fake ARKS members. If that wasn’t hard enough to wake up to, the dimension of Earth has been discovered.
The real ARK members are able to unlock a new level cap and explore new locations, Tokyo, and Las Vegas as they continue their adventure to solve the mystery of the black shadow and purge the planet of these fierce enemies.
Phantasy Star Online 2 has launched in the west fully localized with English voice over. This version of the game also features the most recent balances and quality-of-life improvements found in the Japanese release. The game is free-to-play and allows players to choose from four races and nine classes to create a character who fits their playstyle. Players will be able to play with friends on both PC and Xbox One for cross-platform play.
