Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis to be a “Huge-Scale Update” to Core Gameplay
Sega launched a follow-up video containing more information about the announcement of Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis, coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC for a 2021 release.
The developer shares that Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be a “huge-scale update” to Phantasy Star Online 2. Players will find new game systems creating using a new graphics engine. The update was made in celebration fo the 2oth anniversary of the series and ten year anniversary of Phantasy Star Online 2.
One new addition is wide-open environments that players can explore while on missions. As of right now, the game is mostly navigated through condensed paths with more-or-less copied and pasted assets. The environment will also show the passing of time as players explore. To get around, players can use a “Photon Dash” or “Photon Glide” ability.
Character creation has also been updated. Players can fully customize characters, and their fingers even move. However, players can even bring over custom character data into Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis.
Data that can be transferred between Phantasy Star Online 2 and Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is:
- AC and SG
- Weapons, Units, and Mags
However, character growth with not carry over; this includes levels, EXP, Skills, Photon Arts, and Techniques. Additionally, Current affecting the game economy will not carry over, including, Mesesta and FUN.
STull Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis graphics will be available in Phantasy Star Online 2. So players can still enjoy an updated engine.
Lastly, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis will be free-to-play.
