Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis Details August 2023 Update & New Oshi no Ko Collab

During their NGS Headline, developer SEGA revealed the latest details about the August updates that are coming to the Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis game, as well as details regarding a brand-new collaboration with the Oshi no Ko anime series coming in September. Several new quality of life improvements were also showcased.

First, let’s talk about the quality of life updates. From the Main Menu, you can now change your Vital Gauge design, and also access both the Quest Counter as well as the Titles screen via the Tasks/Quests Menu. Furthermore, you can now select Cocoons and Towers as teleport points and warp directly to them. Players can also fine-tune their avatar adjustments by having numerical values display on the Salon, and you can now customize your ARKS ID with new Backdrops. Next, we have two AC Scratch Tickets, Designer Dreams Aug ’23 and Stylish Summer. The first one will be available starting from August 2, and will include the fourth batch of the outfits that had won the PSO2 10th Anniversary Item Design Contest. Following up on August 23, 2023 we have the Stylish Summer AC Scratch, which features sailor-themed dresses and simple denim outfits for both male and female characters. Each Scratch Ticket also includes new Emotes and animations.

Next up, details about the Uncle from Another World collab were shown, including the collab illustration. Players who login in on August 9 can obtain several Build parts and also obtain avatar costumes inspired on the anime characters. Furthermore, a Beginner’s Boost campaign will also occur on that same day, where players can obtain double the EXP on the Battledia stages, allowing for easier leveling.

Additionally, a new type of Standing Quest for groups of 8 players will be added. This particular quest will take players back to the floating island, Leciel, and the objective is to defeat waves of enemies across multiple areas and obtain buffs to then defeat the boss located at the final area. Clearing this new quest will grant you a new material called Growthment, which allows you to exchange for the new 9-star Verschmelz weapon series, which have a guaranteed chance to deal a Critical Hit with their unlocked Potentials.

Finally, the collab that was teased in the previous Headline has been revealed to be with popular anime series Oshi no Ko. The collaboration will include avatar items themed after Ai, Ruby and Aqua, and special items such as Emotes, Build Parts and Portable Holograms will also be added. Further information about the collab will be shown on the next NGS Headline, which is scheduled to air on September 5, 2023.

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a new MMORPG part of the PSO2 universe but is a brand new adventure offering upgraded visuals and a new narrative, amongst other quality-of-life updates. It is considered a “huge-scale update” to Phantasy Star Online 2. Players will find new game systems created using a new graphics engine. The update was made to celebrate the series’s 2oth anniversary and the tenth anniversary of Phantasy Star Online 2. 

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store or the Microsoft Store) and PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play game. You can watch the latest NGS Headline here:
