PewDiePie Has Raised More Than $50k in Donations in First Few Hours Towards Charity for George Floyd Protests

Newly exclusive YouTube livestreamer, PewDiePie, is using his platform of 105 million subscribers to raise donations for George Floyd protests. The content creator is streaming games live on YouTube now with his community featuring games such as Terraria and Rocket League.

The description of the livestream reads, “We are supporting by raising money and awareness in honor of George Floyd’s death. Money raised will be split equally between 3 different causes that relates to the issue. If you want to donate directly I will link down below. (Please note I do not support any riots/violent acts relating to the events.)”

Currently, the creator has raised $50,000, which will be split evenly in three ways. The first split will go towards “George Floyd and other victims of police violence.” and the second split will go towards the charity group The Sentencing Project. The third split will go towards small businesses affected by looting and riot damage, which the creator is still looking as to which causes are the best to donate to.

After watching the stream for a good hour, it’s important to note that many of the discussions in the comments and Felix’s tone are positive and supportive of the Black Lives Matter movement that is happening around the world.

Many other content creators and livestreamers are hosting donations streams, but we think that PewDiePie using his newly established YouTube exclusivity is a great thing.

If you know of any other streamers hosting donation streams, comment them below.
