Persona 5 Tactica Reveals New Story & Gameplay Details; New Character Art & English Screenshots

Atlus West has shared new character and story details for Persona 5 Tactica, detailing a “Kingdom reminiscent of mid-1800s Japan.” After the Phantom Thieves save a woman named Yuki, they become wanted criminals. The ruler, Yoshiki, supposedly puts on a facade of morality and love. The citizens are put under surveillance, with all who refuse forced to perform labor.

The Phantom Thieves decide to help the city’s people while avoiding Yoshiki’s Legionnaires, the Aizen Squad. They disguise themselves and enact a diversionary tactic helmed by Toshiro, but they soon come face to face with Yoshiki himself.

During gameplay, players must fuse Personas to get an advantage in combat, with Velvet Room attendant Lavenza now dressed as a blacksmith. In battle, you can swap control between the three active party members whenever you desire, enabling strategy and experimentation. Further, standing on the higher ground allows players to knock down foes with melee attacks, and hitting enemies toward other party members will initiate follow-up attacks and even provide extra turns.

Difficulty levels include the following:

  • Safety
  • Easy
  • Normal
  • Hard
  • Risky (Merciless)

If a party member falls in battle, they can be baton-passed to someone in the reserves, and the difficulty level can be changed at any time.

Lastly, in the Repaint Your Heart Challenge Pack DLC, Goro Akechi and Kasumi Yoshizawa appear to help investigate graffiti and the artist Guernica. They are a “pseudonymous street artist” who somehow manages to create massive murals without being caught. Joker learns of one of these recent murals depicting Arsene, which is concerning since it’s knowledge related to Personas.

When meeting up with Kasumi and Akechi there, they hear a voice state:

“Phantom Thieves of Hearts… I need your help…”

The gameplay in Persona 5 Tactica allows players to take a strategic position during battles. Characters can move around the field and take cover for added defense or take a chance to find an enemy’s weakness and receive a chance to deal extra damage. There are other ways to receive an additional hit that require you to defend and play strategically.

Each character has a variety of skills. Whenever you hit an enemy or get hit by an enemy during battle, the star-shaped Voltage gauge near the bottom right-hand side of the screen will fill up. Once the gauge is fully charged, you can execute a character-specific unique skill. Each character has their own skill tree, which can be reset at any time if you wish to create a different type of party.

Persona 5 Tactica will launch for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on November 17, 2023.
