PC Versions of FFV and FFVI to Be Delisted in July Before Launch of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
The official Steam store pages for Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI have received updated notices regarding their continued existence.
Following July 27, 2021, both of these titles will be delisted from the Steam store due to the upcoming releases of the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. The page reads “This game will no longer be available for purchase after July 27, 2021. Instead, please purchase the pixelated remaster version of “FINAL FANTASY V/VI,” coming soon.”
For those unaware, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster games were announced during Square Enix’s E3 2021 showcase and are updated releases of the first 6 mainline Final Fantasy games. Only Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI are being delisted, not Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV because the versions of the latter 2 games are their 3D remakes. The Pixel Remasters are taking the place of the 2D versions currently released, which only apply to the FF5 and FF6 Steam releases.
Neither of these soon-to-be delisted releases were treated with much love by fans, primarily due to their questionable presentation not meshing well with expectations. The Pixel Remasters sound appealing and enticing in concept, but the limited footage of what has been showcased for these games so far has fans anxious and nervous. Not only are these releases only planned for Steam and Mobile, but their graphical presentations are not appeasing most vocal fans at the moment either.
