Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo Reveals New Post-Launch Character Clip & 1-Month Anniversary Art

Square Enix recently shared a new clip and illustration for their recently released mystery adventure, Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, highlighting characters Jun Erio and Richter Kai.

The two’s conversation in this newest clip comprises reflection on when they graduated and became police officers. Additionally, a photo in the clip depicts Jun Erio, Richter Kai, and Hajime Yoshimi from that timeframe.

A follow-up tweet in this thread by director and writer Takanari Ishiyama has the illustration by itself, noting that its arrival is due to Spring being the season of meetings and farewells, likely referring to how Japanese schools are currently hosting entrance and graduation ceremonies.

The dialogue of this cutscene has been translated by our team’s Ryuji, quoted below:

Richter: Oh yeah, what was it that you wanted to show me, Erio?
Erio: Ah, yes. I just found this the other day.
Richter: Well, isn’t that nostalgic! Our photo of when we graduated together as police officers.
Erio: I remember how Yoshimi really hated pictures, so there aren’t many that remain from that time.
Richter: That’s right. I remember you and I had to force him to take a picture with us, didn’t we? I even had this superstition that his “soul would vanish when we took a picture.”
Erio: Not to mention, he hated that hairstyle at the time.
Richter: Still, now that I look back at it…Hajime was always the trouble student, so it’s quite a miracle that we managed to graduate together.
Erio: That’s right. He would often try to attack the instructor he hated and also brought a lot of unallowed magazines to class…and how many of his scandals we had to cover up.
Richter: And all that to escape punishment*. I feel it was only possible because the instructors trusted you well, Erio. I mean, when I first met you, I just thought you would be the typical “honor student with a huge sense of justice.”
Erio: Saying that nowadays is almost incorrect. I think when compared to you two, I was just the “honor student with common sense.”
Richter: Ohh, I see. Well, that seems hard on your boss.
Erio: Whatever do you mean?
Richter: Fufu, don’t sweat it. In any case, to celebrate this nostalgic trip, shall we treat ourselves to a drink as old friends?

*Translator’s Note: Here, Richter uses a word that means “joint liability,” which somewhat implies that Yoshimi’s actions would get both him and Erio in trouble, possibly due to the school’s rules or something. I can’t really tell, but the context does mean that they are escaping punishment.

UPDATE 5/3/2023: Square Enix has shared an official English version of the clip:

Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo follows a mystery adventure where players will face curses that they must overcome. Gameplay takes on visual novel adventure elements where one will interact with other characters and uncover the truth of a string of incidents.

During gameplay, players will explore ambient backgrounds. With the full support and cooperation of the Sumida City Tourism Division, the local museum, the tourist association, and the local community, real-life scenery from Sumida has been photographed with a 360° camera and recreated as photo spheres that cover the entire sky and surroundings.

Players will look for clues, but exploring could lead them to a bad end. There are multiple characters and points of view, but players must deploy curses at the opportune moment or risk being cursed themselves. The main question of the game is, “How far would you go to bring someone back from the dead?”
