The Beckoning Light –
The story of an ominous flame…and its unknown intentions. Ho’onji residents travelling by night would often see a strange light ahead of them. Following it would plunge them into darkness before revealing a new light further ahead. Is it a benevolent spirit leading people home or a vengeful monster leading people astray?
Everburning Lantern –
The story of staying in the light…to avoid what awaits in the darkness. A lone soba cart with no owner to be found sits along the canal. The lantern that hangs from it stays perpetually lit with no oil to fuel it. Does a spirit reside in the lantern, keeping it lit to ward off danger?
Fool’s Procession –
The story of the musical procession…and those who feared to follow it. A man hears music, much like that of a Kagura performance, and is determined to find the source. Is it just some mischievous tricksters or something more devious?
The Foot-Washing Mansion –
The story of a crushing command…and its mysterious origins. A giant, bloody foot smashes through a Mikasacho residence ceiling commanding, “Wash!”. Servants wash the foot and repair the roof, only to be visited every night. Why must the foot be washed and what happens if they ignore the command?
One Sided Reed –
The story of one sided love…and the pain of rejection. After a woman rejects the advances of an infamous rogue he spitefully attacks her. Cutting an arm and leg from one side of her, he throws them into the canal. Does her curse still linger in the reeds of the canal?
The Haunting Clappers –
The story of a burning man…and his warning to the living. When a night watchman hears clappers warning of a fire, he searches for the source to no avail. Is it a warning from a spirit who lost their life in the flames?
Whispering Canal –
The story of the disappearing fishermen…and the voice that lead them to their deaths. Fisherman gathered along the canal would often hear a terrible voice whisper “leave it behind…leave it behind.” Those who did not heed these words would be dragged into the canal, never to return. Where did the voice come from?
Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo follows a mystery adventure where players will face curses that they must overcome. Gameplay takes on visual novel adventure elements where players will interact with other characters and uncover the truth of a string of incidents.
During gameplay, players will explore ambient 360 backgrounds. With the full support and cooperation of the Sumida City Tourism Division, the local museum, the tourist association, and the local community, real-life scenery from Sumida has been photographed with a 360° camera and recreated as photo spheres that cover the entire sky and surroundings.
Players will look for clues, but exploring could lead them to a bad end. There are multiple characters and multiple points of view, but players will need to deploy curses at the opportune moment or risk being cursed themselves. The main question of the game is, “How far would you go to bring someone back from the dead?”
Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo will launch for PC via Steam and iOS and Andriod devices on March 8, 2023, and on Nintendo Switch on March 9, 2023.
