Over 10 PlayStation IPs Are Receiving Film/TV Adaptations

The Hollywood Reporter recently shared comments from Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra regarding upcoming television and film projects, aspirations, and challenges. In the realm of video game adaptations, over 10 PlayStation IPs are confirmed to be receiving theatrical releases or television shows.

So far, the list of currently revealed IPs receiving film/television adaptations is as follows:

  • Ghost of Tsushima
  • The Last of Us
  • Uncharted
  • Horizon
  • God of War
  • Gran Turismo
  • Twisted Metal

The full quote pertaining to the aforementioned projects is below:

He noted the two spinoffs of Amazon’s The Boys that are currently in production, as well as titles based on Playstation franchises like Twisted MetalThe Last of Us, and Ghost of Tsushima, and added that there are 10 more Playstation titles in various stages of development for film and TV.

That listed amount leaves us with at least 3 IP adaptations remaining. There are countless options, though one I’d like to see approached, even though I sincerely doubt it’d be handled well, is Wild Arms. Ape Escape would be pretty funny as an animated comedy of sorts. Regardless, there will always be rightful skepticism with these sorts of projects, and all we can do is hope that there is talent on board who genuinely cares about the IPs they’re working on.
