Wayforward announced that they have teamed up with Limited Run Games to release the original Shantae and Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut on Game Boy Color and Nintendo Switch, respectively.
Pre-orders for the release will open on September 11 and will stay open for four weeks to allow fans to pick up their copy. Additionally, a limited collector’s version will be available in small quantities.
The Game Boy Color cartridge is a repro cart of the first Shantae adventure. This version of the game is playable on Game Boy Color hardware. The title will also be available for Switch physically. The Switch version of Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut is the first time the game has been offered as a physical release for fans.
Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut is an updated version of the second game in the Shantae series, which all began on Game Boy Advanced. Players will take control of Shantae, the Half-Genie heroine, as she heads out on a mission to stop Risty Boots.
During gameplay, Shantae has the ability to transform into creatures with unique abilities as well as interact with various NPCs throughout the campaign. Still, there are more bosses aside from Risky Boots that Shantae will encounter, but we’re sure that she will get through them without a problem.
The gameplay also includes platforming puzzles during levels. Players will have to use the power of transformation to get to new areas and discover secret upgrades. There’s an added Magic Mode, which includes an alternative costume.
Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC-via Steam and is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox One in fall 2020.
