Capcom has announced that the release date of Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been pushed up from September 25 to September 4, 2026, for Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Set in the Edo period, Onimusha: Way of the Sword introduces a new protagonist, Miyamoto Musashi, a samurai who finds himself wielding the Oni Gauntlet. His goal is to slay demons known as Gemma, fiends from the lowest depths of Hell, manifested as Malice.

The Oni Gauntlet remains a core mechanic, allowing players to absorb enemy souls mid-battle to restore health and unleash devastating special moves. Gameplay footage showcases the combat system, highlighting one-on-one duels, counterattacks, and environmental interactions that add additional layers to encounters.

The team aims to make Way of the Sword’s main story around 20 hours long, but that is purely an estimation and not finalized. A free demo is live.
