Capcom revealed a new trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword during the State of Play June 2026 showcase, confirming a release date of September 25, 2026, and announcing that a playable demo is available now.
The latest footage offered a first look at the Mount Oe stage, a new area featured in the upcoming action title. The trailer also introduced Shuten Doji, a powerful boss awaiting players within the region. As with previous showcases, the gameplay emphasized the series’ focus on precise sword combat, counterattacks, and one-on-one duels against formidable opponents.
A PC benchmark tool has also been confirmed in the future.
Players can download the newly released demo to experience one of the game’s opening stages set at Kyoto’s Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The demo allows players to test several of the combat systems that define the experience, including parries, deflects, Issen attacks, soul absorption, and the use of Oni Armaments. It also features a battle against Miyamoto Musashi’s rival, Sasaki Ganryu.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword follows legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi during the early Edo period as he battles the Genma, monstrous fiends that have overrun Kyoto. Armed with the Oni Gauntlet, Musashi can absorb enemy souls to restore health and unleash supernatural abilities during combat.
The game entered its final stages of development earlier this year, according to director Nihei, with Capcom previously estimating a main story length of roughly 20 hours. Way of the Sword marks the first all-new mainline entry in the Onimusha series in nearly two decades.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on September 25, 2026.
