Onimusha: Warlords HD Remaster Revealed by Capcom for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC
Capcom surprisingly announced their plans to release Onimusha: Warlords for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on January 15, 2019.
Created as an HD Remaster to the original 2001 release of Onimusha: Warlords this release will bring the classic action-adventure to current gen consoles. Onimusha: Warlords follows the journey of a samurai named Samanosuke Akechi and a ninja named Kaede who are on a quest to save Princess Yuki who resides in the Inabayama Castle. Evidently, this isn’t going to be easy for the two heroes to accomplish due to the castle being invaded by demons that were created as part of a plot by the evil lord Nobunaga Oda.
Players will use magic and sword skills to make their way past hordes of demons and other powerful foes. The series has been regarded as one of those classic adventure games that all fans of the genre should experience.
It’s been over ten years since the last entry in the Onimusha series, with the last title being Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in 2006. Onimusha: Warlords will be priced at $19.99 and is planned to receive a physical release in North America only at this time, but will release digitally in both NA and EU regions.
You can watch the announcement trailer below to see the updated visuals from the remastered version of the game that looks fairly similar to how I remember the game looking 15 years ago.
Author’s take: Onimusha was introduced to me when I was very young and I remember it being really cool on the original Xbox, even though none of the following entries released on the platform. I’m glad to see the series getting some love as the sells of this game will dictate if the publisher should continue the franchise.
