One Piece Odyssey is an adventure RPG where players will experience a new adventure with the Straw Hat Pirates. The game will feature new characters and monster designs by Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece. Further, music is being handled by Motoi Sakuraba, who is known for the Dark Souls and Tales series.

Oda, the creator of One Piece, designed two original characters for this game, Adio and Lim. Several new animals were also made by Oda, such as the Dry Penguin and Leviathan. Summatively, significant time was spent trying to make the title feel instilled with One Piece’s aesthetic identity.

One facet of the turn-based combat is Scramble Area Battles, comprising several areas where all combatants will be randomly assigned, requiring players to understand and experiment with the cast’s techniques. Another mechanic is Dramatic Scene, which contextually impacts party members, such as Sanji’s inability to attack if women surround him.

One Piece Odyssey is launching for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on January 13, 2023.

The producer is open to considering a sequel to this title, though he wants One Piece to explore more genres as well.
