One Piece Odyssey Sails Towards a 2022 Release
During today’s One Piece News event, an all-new One Piece JRPG titled One Piece Odyssey was announced for release this year.
The trailer for the game begins with a funny message from series creator Eiichiro Oda, stating that he designed the characters for this game three years ago, and that seeing them in motion is like watching a movie.
The eerie image of the Straw Hat ship, the Thousand Sunny, being half-sunken in water is then seen, followed by various shots of very One Piece-looking animals. New characters and monsters are seen throughout the video, designed by Eiichiro Oda himself.
Throughout the trailer, all of the Straw Hat pirates (with the peculiar exception of Jinbe) are seen doing what appears to be special attacks. Whether this means the whole crew will be playable or not is unconfirmed, as the previous game, One Piece: World Seeker, only let players control Luffy in the base game, with Zoro and Sabo being saved as playable characters for the DLC.
The music for One Piece Odyssey is even being done by Motoi Sakuraba of the Tales of series, which should make for a unique audio experience.
One Piece Odyssey is currently set to release for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC later this year. We’ll let you know when a full date is confirmed.
