Square Enix is back on their mobile binge, announcing a new Octopath Traveler game intended for mobile devices. This comes alongside the news that the original switch title has surpassed 1.5 million sales across physical and digital releases. The new mobile game, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be a ‘free to play’ single-player RPG set in the same world as the original title years before those events take place.
Judging from the official website, the game will feature the same charming art style as the original with its fancy 2D sprites on a 3D background and have a battle system that will allow for the player to use up to 8 party members at once. The game will also have numerous on-field events that will make use of your skills outside of battle, as well as inside.
You can watch the announcement trailer below.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is expected to be released in Japan sometime later this year. There is currently no word on an official English release. We’ll let you know when that changes.
Additionally, you can pre-register for the game through the official website via Twitter, Line or Email.
Author’s Take: Considering the game is ‘free to play’ it is highly likely the game will operate on a paid chapter system. I don’t see this title being a gacha game any time soon. It looks extremely pretty and I’m probably gonna play a bit of it in Japanese. The original switch game was well recieved so I’m going to be expecting an english release of this but knowing Square Enix, that probably won’t be until 2020. The art looks really cute and that thmbnail for the trailer is so good. The snow and stone path is such a good aesthetic.
