FREE STYLE has announced that Obakeidoro 2: Chase & Seek will launch worldwide on August 6 for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
The sequel builds on 2019’s Obakeidoro!, which later received a PC release under the title Bail or Jail. Like the original, the game centers on asymmetrical multiplayer matches inspired by Japanese folklore, with players taking control of either Humans or Monsters in fast-paced rounds that last just three minutes.
Online matches support up to eight players, with teams divided into either one or two Monsters against three or six Humans. Monsters must capture every Human before time runs out, while the Human team only needs a single survivor to remain uncaptured to claim victory. Each Monster features its own abilities, including high-speed movement, wall traversal, and unique capture skills. Human players can rescue jailed teammates, carry allies to safety, and use Lanterns to temporarily stun Monsters before making their escape.
Alongside online multiplayer, Obakeidoro 2: Chase & Seek offers several ways to play locally. Local wireless matches support up to eight players across multiple Nintendo Switch systems, while split-screen multiplayer allows up to four players on a single console. Nintendo Switch 2 players can also take advantage of the console’s GameShare feature, allowing another Switch 2 system to join a local session without requiring a second copy of the game.
The sequel also introduces customizable match settings, letting players adjust elements such as team composition and time limits. Players can jump into online Quick Matches with rotating maps, create private Room Matches, join friends already online, or play solo to earn Coins used to unlock additional Monsters and Lanterns. Local wireless and split-screen modes round out the package for offline play.
