Best Game of 2020

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake

Taking chances on returning to beloved video games can be a slippery slope. Any little change to the lore or layout of believed franchises could potentially upset your core fanbase. However, Square Enix took it head-on with the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. A game that hits all the memorable scenes and events of its PlayStation One counterpart but then throws fans and newcomers for loop with its deviation from the main script. The game’s world is fun to explore through side-quests provided by memorable NPCs, the character designs are gorgeous, and the battle system combines fast action with the option to control each character through a battle menu. Given that this is only part 1, we are even more excited to see what the time does with the remainder of the story, given that we are all in uncharted territory now.

NEO: The World Ends With You

NEO The World Ends With You

Announced near the end of 2020, NEO: The World Ends With You is a game that many have been waiting years for. It seems every year, a new group of gamers discover just how grand The World Ends With You is, which only builds the expectations for a follow-up. In the trailer, fans were teased with a stylish look at the game’s Tokyo-based environments, along with a few key characters. However, that was enough to make this our most anticipated release for 2021, and we can’t wait to see what it has to offer.

Best Game of 2020

13: Sentinels Aegis Rim

13 Sentinels Aegis Rim 2

13: Sentinels Aegis Rim isn’t the most approachable game given its text-heavy narrative and unique battle system. However, the world and design allowed players to immerse themselves in a significant adventure that gained the attention of those who wouldn’t consider themselves visual novel fans. The art direction, voice acting, and narrative are only a few of the contributors who made this adventure great. Hopefully, this opened the door of adventure visual novels to new fans, but anyone who plays an hour of 13: Sentinels Aegis Rim Rim will most likely have to finish it if only to see the events through until the end.
