Nintendo Reveals Octopath Traveler Reaches 1 Million Copies Sold Globally in New Illustration

Nintendo announced on their official Twitter that the Square Enix developed RPG Octopath Traveler has sold 1 million copies globally.

Launching exclusively on Nintendo Switch on July 13 world wide, Octopath Traveler features classic SNES style graphics reimagined in a 3D world, known as “HD-2D”. To celebrate the milestone, the art team put together a new illustration showcasing the characters holding a sign that read, “1,ooo,ooo Thanks!”

Octopath Traveler tells the story of eight different characters whose story intertwine, but each have their own destined paths. From the start of the game, players will choose one of the characters to follow on their journey as they face dangerous dungeons and heartfelt interactions.

Octopath Traveler is available now on Nintendo Switch.

Author’s take: The sales of Octopath Traveler should remind AAA publishers that the RPG turn-based genre is still one that is capable of existing and thriving in modern gaming.

To double down on this, developer Acquire created a game who’s graphics mimic those of the SNES. However, they discovered a way to make this visually appealing to new gamers and introduce them to a world where graphics don’t have to push the bar of reality, but instead transport the player to a world of fantasy.
