NISA to Publish The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III in the West on PS4

NIS America announced they will publish the Falcom developed RPG The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III in the west for PlayStation 4 in Fall 2019.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III continues the story of Thors Military Academy student Rean Schwarzer as he and his classmates find themselves in the middle of a war. Over the course of the game, players will learn more about the characters and their personalities as well as the state of the region.

The game features turn-based combat where players can use Arts and Skills to take down enemies. Additionally, other powerful attacks are unlocked as the story goes on. This game also introduces a new “Break System”, which the player will explore throughout the game and NISA will provide further detail on soon.

This announcement carries with it some controversy as publisher XSEED Games has been localizing the series in the west up until now. Fans have grown to love and respect the team’s approach to localization and have questioned NISA’s approach to localizing Falcom games in the past, such as their original localization of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana, which the studio had to fix with a patch after launch.

Still, this means that fan who have played the first two entries on PS3 or PS Vita can continue their adventure with the cast of characters. Similarly, XSEED Games announced they will be publishing Trails of Cold Steel I and II on PlayStation 4 in early 2019.

NISA released a new trailer for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III, which confirms the game will have English audio.

Author’s take: I don’t know how to feel about this but I’ll just wait and see how this plays out.
