Nioh 2 Producer Thinks New Console Generation is “The Perfect Time to Release” a Ninja Gaiden Game
Let’s be honest; it’s been long enough since we saw a Ninja Gaiden game. The series’ most recent entry was Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z in 2012, which wasn’t the best representation of the ninja action franchise. With developer Team Ninja broadening their portfolio with the Nioh series, the question is begged whether we will see the Ryu in his own adventure.
In an interview with Nioh 2 producer Fumihiko Yasuda, we ask if it was possible that fans would see a Ninja Gaiden release in this new console generation. He replied, “Ninja Gaiden is an incredibly important franchise to both myself and Team Ninja.” He continued, “I am always looking for any opportunity to revive the series. While we worked on the Nioh series on PS4, the fact that we were unable to release a new Ninja Gaiden title is something that I think about often. With the new consoles now released, I think that this is the perfect time to release a new entry in the series.”
From his comments, it looks like the series will skip the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One era and emerge on current-gen consoles being the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The game’s fast ninja action and violent gameplay mechanics may find a nice home on more powerful hardware. However, it’s still upsetting that the series has been dormant for an entire console generation.
