Nintendo has announced that the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and Nintendo Switch OLED Model will be discontinued in Europe beginning in mid-February 2027.
The announcement appeared in a new FAQ outlining upcoming hardware revisions to comply with the European Union’s new battery regulations. Production of the original Switch family will continue throughout 2026, with the systems remaining widely available across the region until the discontinuation takes effect.
The updated hardware roadmap includes:
- Nintendo Switch 2 (Autumn 2026)
- Battery capacity reduced from 5,220mAh to 5,172mAh (approximately 1% smaller)
- Includes Joy-Con 2 controllers with user-replaceable batteries
- Console weight increases to approximately 411g (548g with Joy-Con 2 attached)
- Joy-Con 2 Pair (Winter 2026)
- Battery capacity unchanged
- Each controller weighs approximately 2g more than the current model
- Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller (Winter 2026)
- Battery capacity reduced from 1,070mAh to 897mAh
- Weight reduced from approximately 235g to 228g
- Nintendo 64 Controller for Nintendo Switch Online (Early 2027)
- Battery capacity unchanged
- Weight increases by approximately 1g
- Nintendo GameCube Controller for Nintendo Switch 2 (Early 2027)
- Battery capacity increases from 500mAh to 525mAh
- Weight increases from 210g to 215g
Nintendo also confirmed that revised Joy-Con color variants will begin rolling out throughout summer 2026, with availability varying by color.
