Nintendo of Japan Cancels Nintendo Live Tokyo 2024 Due to Threats Toward Staff

Nintendo of Japan has just announced that they will be postponing the Splatoon 3 Koshien 2023 National Finals, which were scheduled to be held on December 16 and December 17 at the Ota-ku Sogo Gymnasium in Tokyo. According to an official notice on their website, they have been receiving persistent threats targeting Nintendo employees, the tournament’s audience and its staff, so they cancelled it to ensure safety to all involved.

Furthermore, the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024, which is linked to the Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals, will also be postponed to a later date, and the company has also decided to cancel the Nintendo Live 2024 TOKYO, which was scheduled to be held in conjunction with the Splatoon 3 World Championship 2024, due to them not being able to ensure the safety of the audience.

In addition, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge’s Final Stage and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024, both of which were also scheduled to be held at Nintendo Live 2024 TOKYO will all be postponed, with the new date being revealed later through their official social media accounts and website.

As of the time of writing, it is unknown as to what sort of threats have they received, though fans have been speculating on social media on what sort of threats would cause them to cancel two major events. It is reassuring to see that they are ensuring safety, first and foremost.
