UPDATES: NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a Anime Resuming This Week After Multiple-Week COVID-19 Delay

Crunchyroll has announced that the anime adaptation of the Square Enix-developed JRPG NieR:Automata, NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a, will resume airing episodes after its multiple-week hiatus from late January 2023 that was caused by COVID-19.

Simulcasting will continue on Crunchyroll, with episode four premiering this Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 9:30 AM PT. If fans haven’t done so, they can watch the first three episodes on Crunchyroll.

UPDATE 2/18/2023: Episode 4, “a mountain too [H]igh,” is now available.

UPDATE 2/25/2023: Episode 5, “mave[R]ick,” is now available.

Animated by A-1 Pictures, directed by Ryoji Matsuyama, with character design by chief animation director Jun Nakai, and music by MONACA, NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a is a thought-provoking experience that has diverged from the game’s storytelling by focusing on a character called Lily. She was mentioned in NieR:Automata and made appearances in supplemental media, but she is playing an active role in this reimagining of NieR:Automata’s events, and we’re pretty excited to see what fresh developments occur as a result of this.

In case you missed it, the NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a anime recently announced café and hot springs collaborations with Japanese companies, revealing new illustrations of protagonists 2B, 9S, and A2.

We provided intricate coverage for an interview conducted by Shuhei Yoshida with NieR series director Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, and composer Keiichi Okabe.

Aniplex has shared the creditless opening and ending sequences for the NieR:Automata Ver 1.1a anime.
