NieR Shares 12-Year Anniversary Illustration Depicting Popola & Devola by Toshiyuki Itahana

To commemorate the NieR franchise’s 12-year anniversary, character designer Toshiyuki Itahana has shared a new illustration gorgeously depicting beloved characters Devola and Popola. These 2 characters originate from the initial release of NieR Replicant, though they also appear in NieR:Automata.

You can view Itahana’s celebratory NieR anniversary artwork below:

NieR:Automata released in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC, with an Xbox One release in 2018. The game follows the stories of androids 2B and 9S, who are part of an elite military force called YoRHa. In a fusion between action, exploration, and shmup elements, the game is very popular for its storytelling and characters. Additionally, the game is a sequel to NieR ReplicantNieR Gestalt.

NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is a remake of NieR Gestalt, which was released exclusively in Japan. The series is a spin-off of the Drakengard series but found fame after the release of NieR: Automata. Some say it was for the action systems, others say it was for the attractive characters. Regardless, it’s a rather pretty game.

During gameplay, players will join a rather untraditional party of characters as they each fight against enemies known as Shades. The gameplay also allows players the chance to take on side missions and even fish. Voiced lines have been added to the game, with the same cast of voice actors.
