NieR Will Continue Development For at Least as Long as Yoko Taro Lives, Says Series Producer

At the G-STAR 2023 event in Korea, during the “A meeting to talk incessantly about the production of NieR Automata,” NieR series creator Yoko Taro and NieR series producer Yosuke Saito teased and elucidated upcoming developments.

Aside from confirming that he and Yoko Taro are working on a project that is not NieR, Saito reassured fans that for as long as Taro lives, development on the series will continue.

Not much elaboration was provided following this statement, but it’s worth keeping in mind. After NieR:Automata was launched, the series only saw a modernized version of Replicant, ports, and a mobile game. There has been no significant new NieR release in over six years.

…” And finally, Yosuke Saito assured the audience that he would continue to develop the NieR series for as long as Yoko Taro was alive… He concluded his speech by saying that there is a separate project that he and Yoko Taro are working on together and that they would like to talk about it sometime next year.”

NieR:Automata was initially released in 2017 on PlayStation 4 and PC, with an Xbox One release in 2018. The game follows characters named 2B and 9S, who are agents of Yorha, an organization tasked with various combative and information-gathering missions. This entry became highly popularized for its storytelling and characters in a fusion of action, exploration, and shmup elements.

NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition is now available for Nintendo Switch worldwide. The first iteration of the game, simply NieR:Automata, is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox, and PC, with the Xbox version containing the colosseum DLC sans extra purchases.

The Switch version has a physical release with a reversible cover, and it is not a Cloud version. It includes all existing DLC and new NieR Replicant & Re[in]carnation costumes.
