[UPDATE] We are assuming the game will come west after multiple western channels have shared the news.
Square Enix announced an updated version of NieR Replicant titled, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC-via Steam.
With the announcement, the publisher launched a trailer showing concept art and detailing the premise of the game. No western announcement has been made at this time, or details about the game, but the trailer’s text reads the following:
In a distant future, humanity is on the brink of extinction. A black scrawl disease and strange beasts threatened the world. A young kind-hearted boy makes a promise to his little sister. A thousand-year lie that would live on for eternity.
The project is being published by Square Enix and developed by Toylogic.
NieR Replicant was released on PlayStation 3 in Japan in 2010. The story continues from the fifth ending of Dragkengard and takes place before the events of NieR: Automata. The game follows a boy named Nier, who made a promise to his dying sister that he will find a cure for her.
Not much has been shared about the project, but the developer has opened the official Japanese website. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on any news about the game’s development.
