Netflix announced that the anime adaption of Ni no Kuni will launch on the streaming platform on January 16.
Ni no Kuni features Studio Ghibli animator Yoshiyuki Momose, who will direct this new adventure. The story of Ni no Kuni follows a group of friends, one of which is wheelchair bond, who are thrown into the fantasy world of Ni no Kuni. After a tragedy, the group must uncover the mysteries of the parallel world as they do their best to protect each other. While the main characters are unique to this story, Ni no Kuni does feature characters who appear in the video game adaptation.
The anime film is composed by Joe Hisaishi, who worked with Momose-san on both Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom. Additionally, Level-5’s chief executive Akihiro Hino worked on the screenplay and serves as executive producer on the project. Hino-san has previously worked on the previous Ni no Kuni titles as well.
The anime previously released in Japan, but it is our hope that it does well in the west. In case you missed it, please check out our review of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Remastered.
