New Elden Ring Showcase Reveals Brutal and Thrilling Gameplay; Collector’s Edition Announced and Available For Pre-Order
Bandai Namco released new gameplay footage of Elden Ring this morning. We learned that the bonfire equivalent of this game is known as a “site of grace,” which can emit a guiding light for the player. Whether the player chooses to follow that guiding light or not is up to them, a design benefit granted by the freedom of exploration.
During this showcase, we also see mounted combat against a fire-breathing dragon. In addition, visceral attacks, as seen previously in Dark Souls and Bloodborne, are also showcased via parries. We then meet an NPC called Alexander the Iron Fist, who requires the player’s help. The player swings a gigantic club to help Alexander out of the ground.
Combat is further revealed, with examples of dual-wielded blades and spears in addition to greatswords. Stealth combat is done via crouching and moving slowly. Jump attacks can stun enemies, leaving them vulnerable to visceral attacks. Unique attacks can also be interchanged between weapon types.
The world map is touched upon, with markers to customize the map to mark locations for crafting materials and dangerous enemies. Beacons can also be placed on the map to help with the orientation of the world. Weather conditions, including rain and lightning, are displayed in the overworld. A brief look into the in-game menu and crafting shows the player making an arrow out of raw material.
Two boss battles were presented in today’s showcase. The first boss was a giant armored knight on an armored mount, wielding a gigantic war ax and shield. It was taken down via a co-op partner in the name of jolly cooperation. The player even summoned a dragon’s head to take down the boss. The second boss was the final boss of Stormveil Castle, Godrick the Golden, a gigantic multi-limbed boss. Hidden illusionary walls have also made their return to Elden Ring, often hiding treasure chests and secret rooms.
