Twin-Stick Shoot’Em Up ‘NeverAwake’ Announced for PC, Releasing Late September 2022, Demo Available

During the Future Games Show, developer Neotro Inc and publisher Phoenixx revealed their upcoming twin-stick shoot’em up, NeverAwake. Throughout this title, players control Rem, a dragon-shaped gun-wielder battling the foes, causing havoc within a young girl’s mind. Players can look forward to 80 360-degree looping levels where Rem aims to collect the required number of souls to free this girl. The enemies represent her real-life fears, such as dentists, angry dogs, and demons.

The title’s developer Hiroshi Sawatari shared the following statement:

“I aimed to create a shooting game accessible to all, and a neverending nightmarish loop of the same stage repeated over and over again seemed like an ideal way for players to progress at their own pace. By designing the enemies from elements we all have feared or loathed in our lives, we hoped to create a setting that is both horrifying and sympathetic.”

NeverAwake is releasing for PC via Steam on September 28, 2022, for $19.99, with English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese text translations. Additionally, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 versions will be launching in Quarter 1 of 2023.

A free demo is now playable on Steam.
