NES Remake ‘Shadow of the Ninja: Reborn’ Brings Demo to Xbox; Switch and PS Demos Coming Later This Month

Edigger Studio announced that the Natsume Atari-developed arcade action game Shadow of the Ninja: Reborn has received a special demo for the Xbox One and Xbox Series platforms. The demo was previously available on Steam but has since been removed. However, this is the first console to receive a demo. The publisher has also confirmed that the demo will be released on Nintendo Switch later this week and on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 later this month. A new trailer was released to celebrate the Xbox demo.

Shadow of the Ninja: Reborn is a remastered version of the 1990 classic, KAGE ~ Shadow of the Ninja, brought back to life by the original development team after 33 years. The game retains its praised side-scrolling action gameplay, featuring enhanced controls and level designs that captivated players decades ago. Now enriched with exquisite 16-bit style pixel art, the visuals have been updated using modern technology to provide finer details and a more immersive experience. The protagonists, Hayate and Kaede, along with all levels and enemies, have been thoughtfully redesigned.

The remastered game not only revitalizes its visual appeal but also expands its combat system, introducing a variety of new weapons and ninja tools. These additions include long-range options like gunpowder guns and shurikens, alongside powerful close-combat weapons such as giant clubs and machetes. Players can also utilize tactical gear like iron caltrops and healing rice balls, enhancing the strategic depth of battles. Continuing its tradition, the game supports co-op gameplay, allowing friends to team up or players to embark on solo missions, enhanced by a modern rendition of the original adrenaline-pumping soundtrack, re-arranged by its famed composers.

Shadow of the Ninja: Reborn will be released on August 29, 2024, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
