Following some fan and developer frustration around its uncertain launch status, NEKO WORKs has confirmed that Nekopara After: La Vraie Famille will officially release on PC via DLsite on June 13, 2025. Pre-orders for a physical edition will also go live on the same day, but the previously delayed Steam version remains without a confirmed date.
A new official website for the title has gone live. Be aware that it is a mature site, but the developer offers a preview of some of the CGs in the game.
Steam Delay Still Unresolved
Nekopara After was originally intended to launch simultaneously on Steam, but approval issues with Valve have left the project in limbo. As reported earlier, Sekai Project submitted the final build on May 5 and complied with a follow-up request nine days later. Since then, Valve has not responded, prompting NEKO WORKs to proceed with the DLsite launch in Japan. The Steam release date will be announced “after approval,” according to the official site.
This isn’t the first time a Nekopara release has run into content hurdles with Valve’s review system. Given the franchise’s adult-leaning themes, localization teams have historically had to navigate content modifications to meet storefront guidelines, though specific reasons for this delay haven’t been disclosed.
A New Chapter in a Longstanding Franchise
Originally teased as DLC for Nekopara Vol. 4, La Vraie Famille was expanded into a full standalone entry in celebration of the series’ 10th anniversary. The story follows Fraise, a French catgirl sent to live at La Soleil’s main branch in Japan after the closure of its overseas location. Her arrival shakes up the existing household dynamic, igniting romantic tension as she joins the familiar cast of catgirls vying for Kashou Minaduki’s affection.
The visual novel includes animated sprites, full Japanese voice acting (excluding the protagonist), and multilingual support for English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. Character designs are once again handled by series creator Sayori, while the story is penned by Murasaki Yukiya. The game also features a new theme song titled “Contrail,” performed by Ceui.
