The game takes place after the ending of Mortal Kombat 11, where Liu Kang became a god and created a separate universe. This allows the team to reboot the series and change up some of the story elements. The title features several returning characters from the franchise in a brand-new context, appealing to both franchise veterans and newcomers.

Several DLC fighters are planned, including Omni-Man from Invincible, set to arrive next month.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
