Australian developer Jett Williams has announced the 2D metroidvania Moonbrella for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. A release date has not been announced.
Moonbrella centers on movement built entirely around an upgradeable umbrella. The game removes the standard jump button, relying instead on physics-driven traversal.
Players control a lone robot exploring an abandoned planet. The umbrella can be used to jab into terrain for vaulting, open to slow descent and glide across gaps, or latch onto surfaces like ledges and vines to build momentum and climb.
Progression comes through finding new umbrella parts that expand movement options and open up additional areas. The design leans into player expression, with multiple ways to approach platforming challenges. Along the way, players collect flowers and gemstones while working toward restoring a sunflower affected by the planet’s conditions.
