Metroid Dread to Conclude Five-Part Samus Saga

We got an in-depth look at the gameplay of the much anticipated Metroid Dread during today’s Nintendo Treehouse event.

This title is almost unprecedented, as it is the first brand new 2D Metroid game in 19 years, with the last original entry being Metroid Fusion, released in 2002. Metroid II: Samus Returns was the last 2D Metroid game, generally speaking, though it wasn’t original as it was a remake of Metroid II that launched back on Game Boy.

Metroid Dread is confirmed to be the finale of the Samus Saga, which consists of Metroid, Metroid 2: Return of Samus, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion. The ‘Dread’ part of the title specifically refers to how Samus is being hunted throughout the title by robot enemies known as E.M.M.I. Little is known about these foes, but Samus will have to use stealth elements, such as hiding from enemies via the Phantom Cloak that acts as camouflage. Also, there could be some tension between Samus and the Galactic Federation as they seem to have played a role in creating the E.M.M.I.

We’ll keep you updated on the development of Metroid Dread.

Metroid Dread is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 8, 2021.
