SFB Games has confirmed that The Mermaid Mask, the next entry in the Detective Grimoire series and a follow-up to Tangle Tower, will launch this summer on PC and consoles. An updated demo is available now on PC via Steam ahead of Steam Next Fest on February 12.
The project was previously paused after the unexpected success of Crow Country in 2024. With development back on track, the studio is moving forward with its next narrative mystery. SFB Games is also known for its work on Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together! and the 2019 detective title Tangle Tower, which built on the original flash-era Detective Grimoire release from 2007.
The Mermaid Mask once again follows Detective Grimoire and Sally as they investigate a murder aboard the Mortuga Submarine. The vessel sits off the coast of an abandoned fishing town, where its captain has been killed under unusual circumstances. Rumors among the crew range from immortality to vampirism, adding to the mystery surrounding the case.
Players will interrogate a cast of fully voice-acted characters and gather clues by solving environmental and logic-based puzzles. The game features hand-drawn 2D animation and character portraits, continuing the visual style established in Tangle Tower. Puzzle design focuses on clue gathering and deduction, with players piecing together evidence to identify inconsistencies in testimonies.
Edwyn Tiong reprises his role as Detective Grimoire. His previous credits include Loco Motive, Harold Halibut, and Unavowed. Amber Lee Connors returns as Sally, known for her work in Jujutsu Kaisen, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Dandadan, and The Outer Worlds 2. Additional voice cast members will be announced at a later date.
The Steam demo has been updated ahead of Steam Next Fest and is currently available to download. SFB Games has not yet announced specific console platforms or a final release date beyond the summer window.
