Spike Chunsoft to Publish Mage’s ‘Memories Off’ Series on Steam; Sadly English Isn’t Supported at This Time

Spike Chunsoft has listed seven entries of the Memories Off series on PC via Steam. The Mages-developed visual novel series, which comprises key staff members who have delivered many notable titles in the visual novel and adventure genres, including Kametani Kouji, Uchikoshi Koutarou, Nakamura Masaki, and more. The routes of the games were pinned by various developers from Mages.

However, English isn’t a supported language at this time. The pages only list Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese. Hopefully, Spike Chunsoft will announce an English text option before release, which at this time just shows “coming soon.”

Here are the Steam pages:

The Memories Off series is a collection of Japanese romance visual novels developed by KID and has been a staple in the genre since its inception in 1999 with the release of the first game on PlayStation. The series has seen iterations across various platforms, including PC, PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, WonderSwan Color, and PlayStation Portable. Beyond the games, the engrossing narratives of the Memories Off series have also been adapted into original video animations, novels, and manga, broadening its reach and impact.

Following KID’s bankruptcy in 2006, the series faced a brief period of uncertainty, halting the development of Memories Off #5: Encore. However, the series found new life when Cyberfront took over the brand, resuming development and releasing Memories Off #5: Encore in 2007. Later that year, 5pb. Games acquired exclusive rights to the series, becoming the primary developer for future titles.

In terms of gameplay, Memories Off follows the classic visual novel format, primarily presenting the story through on-screen dialogue. Periodically, players are prompted to make choices that steer the narrative in different directions, focusing on individual heroines and leading to a range of character-specific endings. From Memories Off 2nd onwards, the games introduced multiple endings for each heroine, encouraging players to replay the game and explore different narrative branches. Additionally, after completing the main plotlines, players might unlock a hidden “True” storyline, further enriching the experience.
