Mega Man 11 Becomes the Franchise’s Best-Selling Game, Surpassing 2 Million Units

Capcom recently updated its Platinum Titles list, communicating the developer’s highest-selling games across its vast portfolio.

Of significant importance is that the latest mainline entry in the Mega Man franchise, Mega Man 11, finally sold over two million units worldwide.

The title was confirmed to have sold 1.60 million units in 2022, and this new milestone makes it the highest-selling game in the franchise. The fastest-selling game remains the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection.

Hopefully, we will see a new mainline entry for this beloved franchise, considering that Mega Man 11 was released way back in 2018.

    About Mega Man 11

Mega Man 11 introduces new gameplay mechanics, including the Double Gear system, which allows the titular hero to slow down time or power up his attacks for a limited period.

This entry features updated graphics, a mix of traditional 2D and modern visuals, and challenging platforming gameplay. There is also a decent focus on narrative with some voice-acting, being a major evolution from the throw-back presentation of Mega Man 10. While retaining the series’ core mechanics, Mega Man 11 blends nostalgia with innovations, providing a newfound experience for all.

Mega Man 11 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

This is such a sobering reminder that Mega Man has never been as popular as we think it is. Both great news and bad news at the same time. Great in that MM11 is the best selling game in the series. Bad knowing that the best selling game in the entire series is only 2 million units, and it took 7 *years* for it to achieve that number. It really drives home why Capcom doesn’t focus on Mega Man the way it does Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, etc. Which is a real shame considering the budget for a Mega Man 11 is nowhere near that of something like a Resident Evil.
