Masahiro Sakurai Talks About Ys in Newest Video
For those unaware, Masahiro Sakurai of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. fame started his own YouTube channel around a month ago, serving as an avenue of game design discussion. The videos are all English-subtitled, of brief length, and contain top-notch editing, so I recommend checking them out.
Sakurai’s newest video explaining the importance of rewarding players will certainly excite Falcom fans because he discusses two of that company’s IPs, Ys and Faxanadu. Regarding the former, Sakurai specifically showcases the TurboGrafx-16 version of the first game, highlighting how rewarding its experience point system is. As for the far lesser-known title, Faxanadu, Sakurai emphasizes its scant money acquisition making the eventual purchase of powerful items all the more satisfying.
In all honesty, as a Falcom fan, seeing Sakurai narrate over these games with their music playing in the background is easily one of the most surreal YouTube experiences I’ve ever had. Huge props to him for choosing such niche games to highlight the broad nature of rewards.
